“My mum is one of the most beautiful people I know. And she’s so small that when I hug her both of my hands connect, almost on my back, cos she is so tiny and pretty.”

These and other poetic musings create the sweet portrait of mother/daughter love that is Kasia and Zosia, one of three fashion films for Modivo, directed by Marysia Makowska, through Papaya Films.

Eschewing the usual frippery and perfection that fashion film can bring, the videos explore a kind of beauty that is more than skin deep.

Another film, Iva, introduces us to a business woman and social enterprise powerhouse who opens up about her self doubts, while Alina, a social worker in Romania, transforms her restlessness into energy as she buzzes around Bucharest. “I don't feel beautiful, I feel strong. I never wanted to be beautiful and I don't perceive myself that way,” she says. Refreshing.
