Directed by Joseph Mann through Blinkink, the three spots, Float, Whoosh and Spin were created by BBH for the Candy Crush Saga mobile game and are packed with juicy colour.
While the films conjure illusory events – spinning rooms, beds afloat in candy-soaked oceans and levitating players – the production team used as many real-world effects and props as possible on the shoots, creating immersive, hallucinatory experiences.
This included building physical versions of candy pieces, using trained acrobats for aerial sequences, and employing practical effects on set including lighting and wind, and working with FX experts to ensure the textures and explosive qualities of the classic candies were just right.
The audio was a collaboration with the in-house team at King, who composed bespoke tracks distinctive to each spot that reflect the emotion at the centre of each idea, but also feature sounds from the Candy Crush world.
