This lyrical film from director Sashinski, co-produced by Robot and Familiaexplores the rarified world of a wire-walking community in South Africa, yet also seems to reference deeper themes of how humans interact with the natural world, and each other.

The director says he has long been fascinated by the motivations of wire-walkers; wondering why they would want to creep along wires hoisted hundreds of feet up into the air. His research led him to an enigmatic wire-walking community in Cape Town who told him about the emotions they experience while up there ‘on the line’.

“For some, it was a transportative and lucid experience that would conjure nostalgic childhood memories,” he says. “Others would speak about the heightened physical experience of being hundreds of feet up in the air and exposed to the elements.”

He gathered together various responses, personal thoughts and reflections to create the audio commentary and filmed it over three days at Cape Town coastal beauty spots – Chapman’s Peak and Sea Point.
