What's the song you've listened to most during this isolation period?

Burn Down the Cornfield by Lou Rawls and Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten by Arvo Part. Also a lot of Frank Ocean, because my son is going through a big Frank phase. And a Mac DeMarco/emo thing because my daughter is gazing out the window a lot because… teenagers. They feel like their life is over because they have to hang out with their parents and not see their friends. So, they’re right.

Also the soundtrack to Devs [below] on the BBC is very, very good.

What track always gets you on the dance floor?

Ms. Fat Booty by Mos Def; Girlfriend by Phoenix; Harlem by Bill Withers... I could go on and on for hours.

What's your 'guilty pleasure' track?

I have no guilty pleasures. I love all good pop music. The bad stuff isn’t a guilty pleasure, because it’s not a pleasure. I grew up in a music business house, so there was never a guilty pleasure. My dad loved the Eagles [below], so do I. My dad loved country music, hip-hop, jazz, skiffle, anything good. Like Bernstein said, “it's all music”, and I feel the same way. If you’re cheesy and brilliant, well done you. If you’re cool and brilliant, amazing stuff. But if you’re boring and cool I don’t care about your haircut, and if you’re cheesy and the music is lazy, then why are you wearing so much man-made fibre?

What song always makes you turn off the stereo when it comes on?

Anything with no thought put into it, or anytime US or UK radio starts rinsing a tune when they have a three-song playlist and I’ve heard the same tune a million times and ARRRRGGGGHHH!

Roots Manuva – Witness (1 Hope)

We can't go out right now, but when we're finally allowed to head out for a night on the town, what track will you listen to while you're getting ready?

Golden Boys by Res; Much Against Everyone’s Advice by Soulwax; The Way You Move by Outkast; The extended remix of Witness One Hope by Roots Manuva (my old classmate)… Basically ANYTHING to get me out of here! SEND HELP! When this is over I’m gonna write a book called Angry Yet Upscale Cooking in a Kitchen on Your Own When Your Whole Life Has Been Cancelled, by Felix S Howard.
