Capturing an NBC basketball player in a philosophical mood is not the easiest of jobs. Not least when it is the NBA star, Giannis Antetokounmpo, known for his sense of humour and playful attitude off the court.

Fresh Film’s Director Luiza de Moraes broke through Antetokounmpo's media persona to reveal an unseen reflective and poetic mood for a series of films for Degree.

The 60-second spot, filmed in Milwaukee and LA, comprises genuine and intimate vignettes following Antetokounmpo and an intertwined cast of sports people as they push themselves to and beyond their limits, with both painful and inspirational consequences.

The cinematography is beautifully compelling and it leads very naturally to the wounds and marks that push these sports people forward.

“It was amazing being able to work with athletes of all different levels’, said de Moraes. “I can relate to the daily marks and scars we get from doing sports, so this job was like telling a familiar story of my own with the added perk of having the honour to work with Giannis Antetokounmpo.

It’s always exciting to film with someone that is so extremely talented. With Giannis, he is not only an amazing basketball player but he is such an eloquent speaker. I sat to do the interview with him with this plan of asking him to close his eyes. In the beginning I almost chickened out of this idea, but as I interviewed him, the way he spoke was so flawless, profound and impactful that I knew I had to do it. The result is this beautiful narrative of his journey, but the one of all movers of all levels around the world.“
