1. Brompton bike

The Brompton is a classic bike; it looks old and new at the same time, and gets me from A to B nicely. But the real reason it had to be a Brompton is because it can fit inside a closet in a pint-sized NYC apartment.

2. Cynthia Rowley gold bike helmet

Not a lot to say except that it’s gold and visible – gear with the dual purpose of looking great and keeping me safe on the streets of New York.

3. Puma Trinomic R698 x ICNY x 3M reflective shoe

This shoe was designed (in collaboration with Puma) by an NYC cyclist who was hit by a car on his bike a few years ago. The reflective material makes the shoes stand out – as if the gold helmet was not enough. The shoe has Puma’s Trinomic cushioning technology, so walking in them feels, well… cushy.

4. Macy’s Wish Writer

We created this stylus with Macy’s to accompany the Wish Writer app. When kids use it to write a letter to Santa, Macy’s makes a donation to the Make-A-Wish foundation. I like that it teaches social responsibility and generosity through technology and storytelling.

5. Mini Jambox

This is the Bluetooth speaker I use in the mornings in the bathroom. It has a tiny footprint and good sound quality for its size. Also, it’s gold.

6. Richard Sapper Minitimer kitchen timer

I cook a lot and rely extensively on this timer that allows me to multitask without burning things. I’m a big fan of Sapper’s work and like looking at the timer and touching it every day.

7. August Smart Lock

These are genius house locks – digital, networked and available from your phone. It’s brilliant for our place because my partner works from home. We can assign temporary or permanent codes, so all the people coming and going can let themselves in using their own phones.

8. Gaggenau induction cooktop

Waiting for water to boil and searing meat now require a lot less patience. It’s one of those things I didn’t know I needed until I installed it (on a friend’s advice) and then started using it. It feels mildly life-changing and is a great party trick.

9. Little Sun light

The light is a solar-powered LED light designed by Olafur Eliasson and Frederik Ottesen. In the now-familiar TOMS model, every light that is bought allows the company to deliver a light to communities in Africa that don’t have electricity. I hang it on my desk lamp, and it makes me smile when I look at it – it has a very happy vibe.
