Thursday afternoon of last week (June 19) witnessed the 2014 CFP-E/shots Young Director Award competition for 2014 come to its conclussion with the annual ceremony where this year's winners were lauded for the work they had created.

A packed house of over 1,000 people congregated at the JW Marriott hotel to see CFP-E president, Francois Chilot, preside over an event full of directorial stars of the future and a cavalcade of fantastic work from test spots to music videos and short films.

The competition is judged by the CFP-E, made of members of the various European advertising associations, alongside our very own shots editor Danny Edwards, 1.4 (and former shots) editor Lyndy Stout and, this year, a guest judge in the form of renowned director, Martin Werner [below left, with Francois Chilot].

For 2014 there were two additional categories added to the competition; charity advertising and the YDA Producer Award, which was given to Mourad Belkeddar and Nicolas Lhermitte of Iconoclast Paris for their work in promoting young directing talent.

The big winner on the night was Kibwe Tavares [below centre], the director of short film, Jonah [above], who picked up first prize in the Short Film Europe category, as well as bagging the Special Jury Award, which honours a piece of work that breaks boundaries, and the Audience Award, which is voted by the attendees of the event on the day.

Other winners on the night included Ciaran Foy, profiled in the current issue of shots magazine, issue 150, for his brilliant PlayStation spot, Our Shoes, which picked up First Prize in Test Commercial Europe; and the brilliantly funny film from Alberto Belli, It's Not Porn, which won First Prize in Web Film Northern America [below].

A full list of the winners and links to their work can be found on the YDA site here, and a selection of the directors who picked up a First Prize will be profiled in the next issue of shots magazine, out at the end of July.
