Zac&Mac Sign with The Cortez Brothers
The directing duo, a former DP and a former copywriter, juggle TV spots with short films and other projects.
Zac&Mac Are on the Cortez Track
The Cortez Brothers, a full-service production company based in Marina del Rey, California, has signed the directing team of Zac&Mac for commercial representation.
Zac&Mac, comprised of former Director of Photography/Post Production Supervisor Miguel de Olaso and Copywriter Bruno Zacarías, teamed up several years ago to create what they call “one single director with two brains and one mouth.”
The team’s resulting commercial work reflects their combined background in terms of visual sophistication and conceptual thinking. They’ve realized spots for a variety of advertisers (including Coca-Cola, Nike, iPhone and BMW), and tackled short-form fiction projects as well.
“Similo,” the duo’s science-fiction short set in an Antarctica of the near future, and “Kore,” a sci-fi thriller filmed in Shanghai, attracted enough attention in Hollywood to get them signed with famed talent and literary agency UTA, which puts them in the same company as directing greats like Brian De Palma, Steven Soderbergh, Lawrence Kasdan and the Coen Brothers.
“We can’t say enough good things about Zac&Mac’s eye for beauty and artistic vision,” says Ed Rivero, Executive Producer of The Cortez Brothers. (For more on The Cortez Brothers, click here.)
“Their cinematic style lends itself perfectly to commercial work, and their dedication to visual storytelling just bowls us over.” Both de Olaso and Zacarías are natives of Madrid, Rivero says, but have lived and worked around the world, with long stops in places as varied as Detroit and Eastern Europe.
