Cameroonian born photographer Violeta Sofia has signed to RSA Photo and Art for worldwide representation.

Violeta Sofia’s image compositions always appear effortless, elegant, and beautifully lit. She creates engaging and intimate photographs as she connects with her sitters, bringing out the essence of each person. Celebrity portraits include Saoirse Ronan, Laura Dern, Carey Mulligan, Taika Watiti, Willem Dafoe, Riley Keogh, Finn Wolfhard, and Austin Butler to name a few. Sofia’s fashion photographs have been commissioned by Vogue, Elle, Deadline Hollywood, and the National Portrait Gallery, who recently acquired a selection of her portrait works.

In her art practice, Sofia also explores issues of identity and race. In 2018, she was able to expand her profile as an artist as she exhibited her contemporary artwork at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Earlier this year, Sofia created portraits for a campaign for Sistah Space, a charity supporting women of African descent who are survivors of domestic violence. The campaign promoted a petition for Valerie’s Law, bringing awareness to the not so obvious effects of violence on darker skin.

“It’s exciting to see the passion that Violeta pours into each of her photography commissions. When I began to get to know her work, I was attracted to the richness in colour, texture, and lighting that she creates, plus she has a very vibrant and charismatic personality. I look forward to seeing what more we can do together” Susie Babchick, Head of Photo and Art, RSA Films.

In 2023, Sofia’s Reframing Narratives: Women in Portraiture exhibition in partnership with the CHANEL Culture Fund will open at the National Portrait Gallery. The three-year project aims to enhance the representation of women in the National Portrait Gallery’s Collection and highlight the often-overlooked stories of individual women who have shaped British history and culture.

Sofia’s upcoming projects include traveling to the Congo to photograph portraits for the charity Malaika.
