Joining Soup Film is Kevin Phillips, an American filmmaker and photographer. 

He was born in New Jersey and attended Savannah College of Art and Design from 2001 to 2006 where he was awarded for best thesis film, two years in a row. His short film Too Cool for School premiered at the 2015 Cannes International Critics Week. Super Dark Times, his feature directorial debut, premiered at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam and the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017 and participated in more than a dozen other festivals, where it won Best Film at the 2018 Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival. It was acquired by The Orchard for distribution and he was nominated for the 2018 Independent Spirit Awards, “Someone to Watch” award and lost, but remains someone to watch.

Phillips gained further prominence with the acclaimed visual album The Lumineers – III, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2019. One of its chapters, Gloria”won the Special Jury Recognition award for Best Director at South by Southwest 2020. He recently finished directing the finale for the Hulu limited series, Under the Bridge.

In addition, Phillips works as a cinematographer, having collaborated with musical artists such as Grimes, Childish Gambino, Death from Above 1979, Nicki Minaj, Aurora and Hozier and global brands like Levi’s, Gap, Nike, Adidas, Dior, Chanel, Jimmy Choo and Beats by Dre.  He recently finished filming the feature documentary Lakota Nation vs United States, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2022 and was acquired by IFC. He is represented by UTA and Grandview as well as Prettybird, LA\PAC, Commongood and WPA.
