Director Mashie Alam’s work is, in a word, refreshing. Her distinct style dances with movement, colour, art direction, fashion, misdirection and dry humour. Inspired by global cultures, cinema and architecture.

Fascinated by the dichotomy of humankind’s inner and outer existence, Alam is a bold artist who brings stylish intelligence to every story, from her short films and music videos to commercials for brands including IKEA, Nike and McDonalds.

Her fashion film Constant landed a Vimeo Staff Pick as well as shortlists at Cannes YDA, Berlin Fashion and Berlin Commercial Awards, along with her film for Corey Moranis.

Marta Bobić, MD at CANADA London, commented how “It’s rare to find a director that fits so naturally into CANADA’s world yet brings a truly idiosyncratic quality. I love the vibrancy and energy in Mashie’s work and how she combines visual elegance and witty humour with bold styling and art direction. And finally, a Canadian director at CANADA! Mashie clearly puts a lot of love and hard work into every piece she makes, and we can’t wait to support her on the next stage of her creative journey and make some iconic work together.”

Alam noted “I remember crowding around a laptop with my friends in school while we were collectively losing our minds over all the music videos and ads on the CANADA’s pages, fangirling and conjuring up scenarios about how sweet it would be to make films like the ones they were producing… It goes without saying how surreal it feels to announce that I have signed with CANADA. I cannot wait to create with such a talented and inspiring team."
