Sir Alan Parker, one of the big four commercials director who crossed into features in the eighties, is to return to the industry to judge a new creativity scheme to judge the best in British advertising.

The prize will act as a UK version of the Gunn Report, compiling British awards to get a net figure of the best work then rewarding the talents behind them. The Cannes Lions and the One Show will be the only non-UK awards whose results are considered in tallying up the total.

The award will reward the Best Creative Director, Best Copywriter, Best Art Director, Best Typographer, Best Photographer, Best Production Company Commercials Director and Best Agency TV Producer in the year.

The 2002 Best of the Best (BOBs) shortlist will be announced in October, then the awards will take place on December 11th.

Parker, whose film credits include Midnight Express, Evita and The Commitments, said: "I am constantly impressed with the depth of creative talent in the British advertising industry. This creativity is important, not only because it affects our daily lives, but also because it feeds on, and feeds back into, many other artistic and creative endeavours."
