Up for director of the year is US talent Paul Hunter from HSI Productions/Mars Media - whose recent spot for Nike through Wieden + Kennedy we showcased online last week and is on shots 64, Joseph Kahn from Super Mega, Palomar Pictures, and Wayne Isham from A Band Apart.
UK directors Sophie Muller from Oil Factory and Garth Jennings from Hammer & Tongs are also in line for the prize.
Kahn is also up for best cinematography for 'Request Line' a promo for Black Eyed Peas featuring Macy Gray.
Floria Sigismondi's film '4 Ton Mantis' for Amon Tobin (shots 62) heads up the international category. Animation collective Shynola is nominated for 'Flying High' for Morgan through Oil Factory.
Garth Jennings wins two nominations in international for 'Demons' for Fatboy Slim featuring Macy Gray (shots 63) and 'Theme From Gutbusters' for Bentley Rhythm Ace. Dom Leung, the second director in the Hammer & Tongs stable, is also nominated for 'The Time Is Now' for Moloko.
Jennings won best director and best international video at last year's MVPA. Michel Gondry won video of the year for 'Let Forever Be' for The Chemical Brothers (shots 54) through Partizan, and Chris Cunningham won best direction of a female artist with Bjork 'All is Full of Love' (shots 52).
