shots Awards 2011: Winners Profiled

Is there such a term as the creamiest of the cream of the crop? If there isn’t, then there should be because that’s exactly what the shots Awards is. Each piece of work posted on shots.net is an example of good, often great, creative work. Every piece of work then chosen to appear on the shots DVD or in the pages of shots magazine is - we like to think - a rubber stamp of creative excellence for work that is the cream of the crop. What the newly minted shots Awards looks to do is take that cream and further enrich it by taking the best work, the most creative companies and innovative people and sorting the brilliant from merely the best. As you can imagine, it’s not an easy task.

So much great work appears over the course of one year that compiling shortlists for the various shots Award categories was a long and painful process which resulted in some cross words and the occasional steely glare. That’s why we are supremely grateful to our international group of judges who agreed to take the reins of the shots Awards for that most difficult final hurdle; choosing the actual winners. As we’ve already established, every shortlist was full of work that had already picked up numerous international awards, companies that had brought that work to fruition and people who had contributed to making that work great. So, judges, we salute you.

And let’s not forget the winners – how could we? They deserve our congratulation as well as our unbridled envy at their talents. Subscribers to shots magazine and DVD can read all about the different winners, and watch the winning work in issue 133 which is out now, but as well as that, subscribers to the shots.net site can access the entire shots Awards 2011 winners feature clicking here or by clicking on the assorted links at the bottom of this story.

Over the course of these profiles we attempt to get to the bottom of what makes each person or company tick, what creative rules they impose on themselves, why they think the previous 12 months have seen such success and whether creative consistency can be achieved on an even longer term basis. And this is just the beginning. The entry process for the 2012 awards is already open because all it takes is for you to send your work to shots in consideration for the site, DVD and magazine. We’re already looking forward to saddling another group of international judges with some near-impossible decisions.]
