Eurobest entries almost reach 5,000
Eurobest, the largest European Festival of Creativity and annual awards which kicks off today, has announced that a total of 4847 entries have been submitted for this year’s awards, up 0.5% versus 2011. Entries from 38 countries submitted to the 15 award sections, including the new Branded Content & Entertainment category, will now be judged in Lisbon by 94 jury members, led by a stellar line-up including Sir John Hegarty, Lord Tim Bell, Jean-Remy von Matt, Rei Inamoto and Olivier Altmann.
The top submitting countries this year were Germany (1021) followed by France (703), Sweden (463), United Kingdom (455), Switzerland (325), and Belgium (324). All entries can be viewed at dedicated interactive kiosks and exhibitions during the three-day festival, taking place at the Cinema São Jorge in Lisbon, Portugal. Delegates will also have the unique opportunity to view 25 years of Eurobest Grands Prix.
The shortlists will be announced on Thursday 29 November and Friday 30 November and the winning entries will be revealed and honoured at the Eurobest Awards Ceremony, which will take place at the close of the Festival at the Pátio da Galé in Lisbon on Friday evening 30 November. Winners will be named and Volkswagen will also be honoured with this year’s Advertiser of the Year accolade.
Bartoletti announced as president of Craft Film Jury at Eurobest
Eurobest 2012, the European Festival of creativity and one of the biggest awards for Europe’s creative communications industry, has announced Karim Bartoletti as president of the Craft Film jury. Bartoletti is one of the nine jury presidents selected among the best professionals of the industry, with Sir John Hegarty, Olivier Altmann, Dean Baker, Lord Tim Bell, Rei Inammoto, Jean-Remy von Matt, Chris Moody and Nigel Sharroks all involved to select the works presented at the Festival. They will select the works on the basis of their productive aspects considering the craft decisions to produce a creative idea and to be able to best convey a creative and communication message to the public. Subcategories of the Film Craft section to judge include: animation, visual effect, art direction, cinematography, film direction, sound design, script, editing and best use of music.
Niels Shoe Meulman live at Eurobest
Internationally-renowned graffiti artist Niels Shoe Meulman AKA Shoe will join the Eurobest Festival in Lisbon today to work on a live graffiti project in the city. Considered a graffiti legend, Shoe will begin work on a Lisbon city wall located in Alcântara, an area near the river Tejo. Across two days, with the city as his audience, he will create a unique piece of Calligraffiti. On the last day of the Festival, he will join Creative Social on stage for a seminar which will take the audience head on into creation and craft and explore the combination of both order and chaos in Calligraffiti. Located at the top of Rua Cais de Alcântara, at the crossing with Avenue da Índia, Shoe will work on the wall across 28 and 29 November, at which point anyone is welcome to view the work in progress. After this, delegates can see him on stage in the Creative Social seminar, taking place from 4-4.35pm on Friday 30 November. Full details of the Festival Programme can be found at Eurobest.
Coca-Cola named Cannes Creative Marketer of the Year
The Coca-Cola Company, is set to be recognised at The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in 2013. The organisers behind the world's largest and most prestigious global annual awards celebrating creative excellence in brand communications have named the multinational beverage corporation as the recipient of the 2013 Creative Marketer of the Year Award.
Formally known as the Advertiser of the Year Award, the prize is presented to brands that have distinguished themselves by inspiring innovative marketing of their products across multiple platforms and who embrace and encourage creativity in their brand communications produced by their agencies. Having won its first Cannes Lion back in 1967, The Coca-Cola Company has gone on to pick up more than 100 Lions across different advertising and communication disciplines, including a Design Grand Prix in 2008 for the US entry Coca-Cola Identity and, most recently, the 2012 Outdoor Grand Prix win for China for Coke Hands (pictured).
Creative production outfit NATL has announced a rebrand that will see a new corporate identity including website, reel and new capabilities for the company. The new montage reel features 80 of the company's most exciting and interesting projects from the past eight years, drawing from commercials, music videos, network IDs, promos and brand films. Programmed by the talents at LA-based interactive design firm Loyal Design and designed by NATL's Chris Dooley and David Chun, with additional creative and production input from Brumby Boylston, Brian Won and Jared Libitsky, the company's new website presents NATL's ‘greatest hits’ in more depth, along with its latest news, press coverage, new projects, archives, social media links and more. Gorgeous in the US
Gorgeous Enterprises has announced it is to open a base in the US. The company’s roster includes English directors Frank Budgen, Chris Palmer, Peter Thwaites, Tom Carty and Vince Squibb, and American director Ellen Kuras. Georgeous earned the title of Most Awarded Production Company of the Last 50 Years from D&AD earlier this year and Most Awarded Production Company in The World from the Gunn Report.
Velocity Winks at production service
Say hello to Wink, a new production service company in Cape Town, South Africa. The company prides itself on having the nimble and bespoke services of a small company whilst having the support and resources of Velocity backing it. Executive producer Alison Ellard will head up the young outfit and is already building its online presence with a website and Facebook page to boot.
