Cannes Lions announces latest jury presidents
Cannes Lions has announced the presidents for the Design, Film Craft and Radio categories at this year’s International Festival of Creativity, taking place from 17-23 June, with Bruce Buckworth, Ivan Zacharias and Rob Mclennan all added to the line-up.
Duckworth, creative director at Turner Duckworth, UK, will lead this year's Design Lions Jury. After working as a designer at Michael Peters, Minale Tattersfield and Lewis Moberly, Duckworth started the brand design agency Turner Duckworth in 1992 with his friend and fellow designer David Turner.
Heading up the Film Craft Lions jury is Ivan Zacharias, director with Stink, UK. Zacharias began directing commercials while still a student and quickly developed a reputation as the most interesting and innovative director of his generation to emerge from Eastern Europe. His most notable work includes 'Impossible Dream' for Honda, Born Free for Land Rover, Smile for VW Beetle and Doctor for Stella Artois.
Rob McLennan, executive creative director, Net#work BBDO, South Africa, will take the helm of the Radio Lions. Winning a multitude of awards over the years, Rob has been responsible for many memorable campaigns including Dulux Any Colour you can Think of, Axe Get a Girlfriend, Virgin Atlantic Plain Insanity and Mercedes-Benz Accident Avoidance.

Cannes Lions has also named the first batch of world-class speakers to appear before delegates at this year’s event. Lord Sebastian Coe, Sir John Hegarty, Andrew Keller, Michael Patrick King, Smokey Robinson, Ronaldo, Dan Wieden, Sir Martin Sorrell and Peter Roth have all been confirmed.
Spikes Asia Dates and Venue confirmed
The organisers of Spikes Asia, the regional APAC awards and festival for creative excellence in advertising and communications, has confirmed that the 2012 Festival will take place from 16-18 September at Suntec, Singapore. Attendees can look forward to an outstanding learning programme featuring around 30 seminars and six workshops given by industry leaders from around the world, as well as exhibitions of the best work from the region. Once again, networking events will be on offer including Networking After Dark which will see Singaporean agencies opening their doors for an evening of fun and socialising while Festival opening drinks and the Awards After Party will provide further networking opportunities to delegates.
The One Club adds to board of directors
Seven of the advertising industry’s leading professionals have been elected to The One Club Board of Directors, joining the existing board members to lend their guidance in the future activities of the global advertising organisation and producer of the annual One Show Festival held in May each year during One Club’s Creative Week in New York City.
The new members are Joe Alexander, executive creative director and senior vice president, The Martin Agency, Richmond, VA; Hal Curtis, creative director, Wieden + Kennedy Portland, Oregon; Mark Fitzloff, executive creative director and partner, Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, Oregon; Ted Royer, executive creative director, Droga5, New York; Jimmy Smith, chairman, CEO and CCO, Amusement Park Entertainment, Los Angeles; Steve Simpson, chief creative officer/North America, Ogilvy, New York, and Pum Lefebure, co-founder and creative director, Design Army, Washington, DC. All will serve two-year terms effective immediately except Mr. Simpson and Ms. Lefebure, who will join the board in June.
Amsterdam calls for an EYE-dent
EYE, the new film museum in Amsterdam, has worked with advertising agency Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam since 2009 and recently collaborated with the agency's in-house apprenticeship program, The Kennedys, to promote the opening of its new location.
To celebrate the opening of the new building, EYE has invited film lovers to submit a 20-second short film, an EYE-dent, furthering the organisation’s intention to be a gateway to the world of moving images. EYE will select a number of videos to present on their website. These selected contributions will also be awarded with 10 free screenings and be included in the renowned collection of EYE. NYF 2012 announces six additional executive jury appointments
The New York Festivals International Advertising Awards, now in its 55th year, has announced six appointments to the 2012 Executive Jury. The elite group of worldwide chief creative officers and executive creative directors were chosen to select the World’s Best Advertising across all mediums from the shortlist selected by the Grand Jury. The Executive Jury convenes in New York 28 April through 1 May. The award-winning entries will be announced at the New York Show on 3 May at the New York Public Library Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.
LA shows Proof of Concept
Executive producers Stuart Wilson and Raffi Kryszek have launched Proof of Concept (POC), a technology-driven content company servicing the commercial and music video industries. POC draws on the partners’ shared background in production and alternative media, merging Wilson’s ad biz expertise with Kryszek’s entertainment industry acumen. The result is a technological and artistic think tank dedicated to the advancement of technology in the execution of ambitious branded projects across all platforms.
