Nobody was interested in traditional media as web films stormed the Film category, Cyber gave out three grand prix and the historic Obama campaign took top prize in Titanium and Integrated. Thankfully though were some Cannes mainstays rocking the Croisette as they do every year - the Leopard-print Ladies. Oh. And the shots party.
As ever, the party saw its fair share of memorable moments. Not least the surreal spread-like-wildfire moment when the news of Michael Jackson's death swept the beach - a Mexican wave of iPhones as people tried to check the story on TMZ - followed minutes later by Billy Jean.
Surpassing the brave gent who swam into the party in his tuxedo a few years ago, this year a group of ambitious revellers managed to crash the party by coming in via speedboat.
And of course, after a few too many G&T's, a pair of partygoers came to blows, resulting in a couple of bloody noses and sore heads in the morning. That combined with the superbly danceable music courtesy of Ben Walter of
Jimmy Turner and Mr Bongo had the party on par with a Skins ad. Adidas House Party ain't got nothing on us.
A massive thanks to sponsors
1000 Volts and
Framepool, who made the party possible. It's been a tough year, and the crowds of partygoers relished the chance to let their hair down and have a boogie on the beach. Framepool were also on hand with their own photographer, and they've got scores of stunning party snaps on their website
here.
If you've got any snazzy snaps of Cannes 09 we want to see them for our annual post-Cannes photospread. Sur la plage, a la piscine, avec la guile de bois - we want them all. Send them to
party@shots.net to see your Lions 09 experience immortalised in shots 116.
For those who didn't manage to get in - sorry we didn't see you down on the beach. See you next year though - and set your alarms to 10pm sharp to ensure entry.
